Kenting is a beach town at the very bottom of Taiwan. It was beautiful and reminded me very much of the good times we had in New Jersey visiting Nana and Pop. In contrast to HK the sky was very clear and the air fresh. What a nice change from being in the

city! Along the beach I

felt like I was in Jamaica or something.

There were huge coral rocks near the beach, bamboo huts along the sand, reclining chairs with bamboo and straw umbrellas, and 5 star hotels. Along the main street that followed the coast was the New Year celebration grounds, which wasn't grounds at all really, it was just the street and store fronts. Loads of street vendors and street food, enough to make one dizzy! Sometimes the fireworks, crowds of people, and smells were overwhelming. We stayed Catholic hostel, just a pad in the middle of the floor in a huge open room... a
only when traveling on a budget experience I assure you.

That's pretty cool thought that you got to stay at that hostel. Was it free? Was it run by nuns or monks or something? And did you meet anyone interesting there? The pictures you took look amazing Nathan, Taiwan beachfront looks beautiful!
Yeah the Christmas pics were really nice! made me homesick just a bit haha. The hostel was just run by some locals who spoke English very well. They even had a short mass on Sundays but we left on Friday.
